Kim's Starter Replacement

The starter on Kim's 96 Corolla became unreliable, so we took it out today, 1/1/2018, so that tomorrow, we can put a rebuilt one in.

Philip Brown, is seen here below, leaning over the engine, getting the opportunity to learn how to remove the starter. With my neck more sensitive that usual, I tried to mostly just tell him what to do, and let him do most of the leaning over.

Oops, we had a little accident. The ported vacuum valve accidently got broken, slowing things down a bit. Life Happens! We just have to deal with it, and to keep on going.

  2 Corinthians 12:9

Broken Ported Vacuum Switch

From the picture below, you can see why. The valve, is right over the bolt to the starter, that we had to get to. We have to be more careful next time, and not get in to big of a hurry, maybe even protect it with something next time.

The hard place to get with the valve just above it.

We used some crazy glue first,

then reinforced it more with epoxy.

After that, we set it on the wood stove to cure for a bit, and to be able to test the valve to see if it still works. It is opened when hot, and closed when cold. So it should do the job.

We were reminded, after I broken it again, and had to glue it the second time, that it has to be really clean. Sanding and cleaning it again with alcohol is really is essential. That glue job seems to be holding for now. But just incase that glue lets go, we also ordered another one, that should be here in a few days. But in the mean time, we know how to get by.

Below is another little video celebrating sucess.
